Common warts are the handiwork of a virus that causes non-cancerous skin growths to develop. Warts are typically nothing to be alarmed about and often vanish without any treatment. However, the appearance of a wart creates embarrassment and disgust for the unsightly growth. It is important to note that common warts differ from moles because they are not cancerous. Most of the time, a common wart will develop on a hand or finger.

## Causes and Symptoms

It is human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes warts to attack the body. The virus is responsible for a rapid growth of cells that take place on the outer layer of the skin. With more than 60 kinds of HPV, there is more than one type linked to the warts that grow on the skin.
